The astrolabe, which derives from the Greek "astron", meaning star, and "lambano", meaning to take / to look for, is an ancient tool used to the seek and measure the position of the stars. The intricate design of this astrolabe is modelled after the one made in 1641/1642, which is currently on exhibit at the Oxford Museum of Science.
