French Zoetrope

$80.95

The zoetrope is a pre-film animation device that produces the illusion of motion by displaying drawings or photographs in sequence and showing the progressive phases of that motion. A zoetrope consists of a cylinder with vertical cuts and a band of images lining the inner surface. As the cylinder spins, the user looks through the slits at the pictures and sees a rapid succession of images, which produces the illusion of movement.

This zoetrope is a reproduction of one made in France during the 19th-century. It includes 30 animated strips, which are based on historically-accurate traditional images used with the device. It is housed in a decorative cardboard box and includes instructions for use and a brief history of the object.

Size: The French Zoetrope is approximately 16.5 x 22 cm (6.49 x 8.66 inches) and is handmade in Spain.
