Mini Zoetrope Art Deco

$53.95

The zoetrope is a pre-film animation device that produces the illusion of motion by displaying drawings or photographs in sequence and showing the progressive phases of that motion. A zoetrope consists of a cylinder with vertical cuts and a band of images lining the inner surface. As the cylinder spins, the user looks through the slits at the pictures and sees a rapid succession of images, which produces the illusion of movement.

These small sized zoetropes were popular in France during the 19th-century and this particular replica is decorated with art deco-themed accents. It includes 30 animated strips, which are based on historically-accurate traditional images used with the device. It is housed in a decorative cardboard box and includes instructions for use and a brief history of the object.

Size: The Mini Zoetrope Art Deco is approximately 12 x 17 cm (4.72 x 6.69 inches). It is fashioned out of metal and wood using original construction techniques and is handmade in Spain.
