Benjamin Pollock's Shadow Box - Alice
Based on the Lewis Carroll story, this Alice in Wonderland Shadow Box can be coloured in with crayons or watercolours or left in its striking original black and white. The kit is designed to then be cut out and pieced together for display. Please note that the kit does require precision cutting so although the colouring is appropriate for younger children, the cutting out would require a more practised hand.
The Alice Shadow Box features design and artwork by illustrator Simon Seddon. Originally trained as an abstract painter at Chelsea School of Art in the 1990s, his vivid memories of his childhood growing up in a South London pub and his love of the stories of Angela Carter led him to return to drawing the fairytales and characters from his imagination. He now mines his collection of antique toys to illustrate the wonderful world of the Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop Shadow Boxes.
Benjamin Pollock's Toyshop located in Covent Garden in London has been in the business of delight for over 100 years! Benjamin Pollock was first introduced to toy theatres when he married Eliza Reddington, who inherited her father’s Theatrical Print Warehouse. From his original dusty shop in Hoxton, Mr. Pollock brought joy to local children, lovers of nostalgia and well know actors such as Charlie Chaplin. Author Robert Louis Stevenson was delighted by the shop, immortalizing it in an essay ‘If you love art, folly or the bright eyes of children, speed to Pollock’s’.
