Roll for Adventure: A First Taste of Dungeons & Dragons (16+) with Kyle Duncan

$65.00

Date: Thursday, March 26th, 2026
Time: 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Have you always been curious about Dungeons & Dragons, but never quite known how to begin? This welcoming, story-first event is designed as a gentle first step into role-playing, perfect for adults (15+) who love fantasy, storytelling, and imaginative worlds - no rules knowledge, no experience, and absolutely no pressure required.

Rather than focusing on complicated mechanics, this session invites you into what D&D does best - shared storytelling, collaborative problem-solving and an opportunity to step into another world for a few magical hours!

You’ll be guided through a complete, beginner-friendly adventure by Kyle Duncan - an experienced Dungeon Master - with everything provided, including pre-created characters, dice, and all the tools you’ll need. You simply show up, settle in, and play!

What to Expect
• A relaxed, welcoming introduction to Dungeons & Dragons (5e)
• Pre-made characters, no preparation or homework
• Clear guidance as you play (we explain things as they come)
• A story-driven adventure with mystery, choices, and surprises
• All set in the cozy and magical atmosphere of the Curiosa Common Room

The Story: Homeward Bound
As the remains of grey-brown snow begin to thaw under spring rains, the road back to Heartsmeadow is slow and begrudging. After one precious night in a warm bed at Pearl’s Point you – the heroes of Heartsmeadow – gathered your cargo for the long journey home. Imagining how pleased your friends and families will be to see these vital supplies, you steel yourself and set out along the road ahead.

The trip here was quiet, but bandits and brigands are always a threat in these desperate times. And it’s been years since monsters came out of the forests or down from the mountains, but there were those rumours about caravans found along the road, destroyed by something… big.

Host:
Kyle Duncan, He/Him, Pākehā

After a brief dalliance with tabletop roleplaying in his youth, Kyle began playing again in 2017 and has been running at least one game at any time since. Kyle’s games tend to be character and story-focused, without losing the delicious feeling of rolling a handful of dice now and then.

He is always excited to introduce new players, keeping things simple and getting quickly to the beautiful shenanigans of telling an adventure story together. Kyle always aims to host a safe and inclusive table, where everyone can participate and feel comfortable.

As well as being well-versed in Dungeons & Dragons (5e), Kyle also enjoys running other systems, particularly Powered by the Apocalypse games, like Monsterhearts and Urban Shadows, and his inner angsty teen still has a soft spot for the World of Darkness.

Kyle’s tables are LGBTQI+ and BIPOC friendly He uses the X-card and Lines & Veils safety tools, as well as an open door policy, which you can read more about here.
