If We Were Villains
$40.99
On the day Oliver Marks is released from jail, the man who put him there is waiting at the door. Detective Colborne wants to know the truth, and after ten years, Oliver is finally ready to tell it.
A decade earlier, Oliver was one of seven young Shakespearean actors studying at the prestigious Dellecher Classical Conservatory. In their secluded world of firelight, leather-bound books, and fierce ambition, the friends slip easily between the roles they play onstage and off: hero, villain, tyrant, temptress, ingénue.
But during their fourth and final year, old rivalries turn dangerous, and the violence they have only ever performed onstage begins to bleed into real life. Faced with a tragedy of their own, the students must give the performances of their lives, convincing the police, one another, and themselves of their innocence.
A darkly literary tale of friendship, obsession, rivalry, and the treacherous distance between performance and truth.
