✨ Pop-Up Market, One Weekend Only: Free to Attend! ✨
A familiar pair of magical mischief-makers are returning to Curiosa, this time with a darker twist! We're delighted to welcome back Brittney of The Fantastic Fox and Heather of Upcycled Vintage Art as the Curiosa Common Room transforms into The Black Market, a gathering of strange creations, mysterious specimens, and treasures of questionable origin.
Brittney unveils new handcrafted potions, poseable and wearable creatures, and peculiar specimens that may or may not have been acquired through questionable means. Best not to ask too many questions!
Heather returns with her signature subtly altered vintage works, original paintings, antique framed prints, miniature portraits, postcards, and a treasure trunk of artistic curiosities infused with imagery from beloved fandoms. Familiar things with a delightfully sinister twist.
Venture upstairs, meet the artists, and browse their collections of the strange and unusual. You never know what might follow you home.
Free to attend, and all are welcome. No ticket required!
About the Artists
Brittney Oberfeld is the artist behind The Fantastic Fox, where she creates handcrafted fantasy props inspired by magical worlds. With a background in art, game design, and creative technology, she builds immersive, story-rich objects - swirling potions, wearable creatures, dragon eggs, and other enchanted relics that feel like they’ve wandered out of a well-loved fantasy novel. Working with reclaimed and upcycled materials, Brittney combines sculpture, resin casting, and detailed finishing to bring each piece to life. Her love of prop-making was sparked in part by Stratford Theatre’s Summer Prop Program, where she deepened her passion for bringing fantasy into the physical world. Based in Ottawa, Brittney creates magic you can hold for anyone looking to add a bit of whimsy to their everyday.
Heather Castles is the artist behind Upcycled Vintage Art, where she subtly paints pop culture elements into forgotten artwork. Heather’s background in children book illustration adds nostalgic storytelling to her art as she captures quiet moments from fantasy and science fiction stories. From sourcing artwork to shipping, every step of her process is rooted in using vintage, repurposed, or recyclable materials. Local to the GTA, Heather’s “subtle-nerd-art” is perfect for those who want to celebrate their fandoms in an artful way.
